Loki came to us from a shelter in TX, where he was a stray.  When he was picked up from the shelter it was clear there was something special about him - he was barely 20lbs and had outlived a snake bite to his face.  On top of that, he had some serious breathing problems.  Because of this we drove to Arkansas, where he was being held, to drive him back to MN ourselves.  We were shocked when we met him as he is SO TEENY!!  He is clearly a micro-breeding breeder experiment gone wrong...but he is the happiest, cutest boy ever - with so much spirit!  We got him into the University of Minnesota shortly after we got back to MN with him and learned his airway is about the size of a straw.  He also has a concave chest, so his heart is pushed to one side and leans on one of his lungs.  He also has a slight deformity to his legs.  To help with his breathing he underwent surgery to tie back part of his throat, so it is always open.  This allows his airway to be more open - as there is a lot of suction inside his mouth when he breathes with such a small airway.  He has been doing great after his surgery and is now at a point where he can find his forever family!  Because of his surgery and his special needs - he will require a very special home.  One that can monitor his breathing closely in case anything changes and be prepared for the cost of another surgery to help his breathing, if he ever needs it.  The surgery he had is typically done on older dogs, so there is a chance that he may need to repeat the surgery years down the road.  He is also at more of a risk to get pneumonia.

We like to call Loki our little gremlin bc of his antics - he is a little stinker who loves to get frisky at night when everyone is trying to go to sleep.  He loves other dogs but can be a little protective over his toys.

Loki will always need to wear a harness as a collar pushes on his throat and can mess with the surgery he had.  He also can not ever swim or be around or in large bodies of water as his throat is always open and he could drown.  Food and water intake should also be monitored.

If you are looking for a super special dog that will stop people in their tracks - Loki is your dude!  Pictures can't do him justice!
